PPI FAQs

Is TLC regulated or non-regulated?

The Legal Consultancy Ltd is regulated by The Claims Management Regulator in respect of regulated claims management activities.

What is your fee?

We charge 30% + vat of any money we get back for you. For example, if you were awarded £3,000.00, our fee would be £1,080.00 and you would receive £1920.00. If the claim is unsuccessful, there is no fee.

Other firms are dealing with PPI, why should I use TLC?

It is vital that the basis upon which the PPI complaint is made is valid, otherwise the lender may just reject the claim; it is, after all, in their interest not to pay out. By using TLC to manage this process on your behalf, you will benefit from the many years of experience of experts in the field, who will investigate your case thoroughly and will provide a seamless service to ensure your case concludes in a timely manner and with the best possible financial outcome.

One of our areas of expertise is in identifying “hidden” PPI – this is where the PPI has been added to the borrowing without your knowledge and it is this area of PPI that still remains largely unclaimed.

We have the capacity and resource to deal with volumes, and are able to identify very early on whether there are additional claims to be made.

How long will it take to resolve?

Claims take approximately 4-6 months to conclude as the lenders have up to 40 days within which to provide us with a DSAR and a further 8 weeks to respond to the complaint.

If we do not reach a satisfactory conclusion via the lender within that time we will take your case to the Financial Ombudsman (FOS). Unfortunately this can add several months to the process, however a large percentage of PPI cases that go to the Ombudsman are awarded in the consumer’s favour.

Given that we do not get paid until YOU get paid, we are as keen as you to conclude the claim as quickly as possible.

Can I reclaim if I’m still paying off the loan?

Yes – we will ensure that this runs smoothly for you.

Will I have to go to court?

It is very unlikely but if this were to occur we would continue to provide our services and arrange for you to be represented by a solicitor. In order for the solicitor to represent you it will be necessary for you to enter into a contract with the solicitor for the provision of their services. If you do not wish to continue with your claim at this point you may cancel your contract.

How much compensation will I receive?

We do not believe in exaggerating the value of the potential claims; according to the figures provided the FCA, the average PPI compensation value is approximately £1,900.

However, our experience has shown that the payout ranges from hundreds of pounds to tens of thousands. This is based on the value of the PPI policy and will be calculated for you by our experts.

Can I make more than 1 PPI complaint?

Yes. You can reclaim for each policy you were sold, whether they’re with the same or different lenders.

What information will you need from me to work out if I have a claim?

Not much initially – only details of your Lender and the approximate date you took out the loan plus the address where you were living at the time; this will enable us to apply for further information from your Lender (called a Subject Access Report). If we identify a potential mis-sold PPI policy, we will then send you a simple questionnaire to fill in.

Can I reclaim if the loan’s repaid and I’m no longer a customer?

Yes. What counts is the fact you were mis-sold when you got the policy, not whether you still have the loan. The fact the debt’s cleared doesn’t mean you weren’t mis-sold, so you can still reclaim.
How long have TLC been doing PPI Claims?
The directors of TLC have over 20 years of experience in both Law and Claims Management and TLC have dealt with thousands of claims from 2008.

Can I run this claim myself?

Yes, you can make this complaint directly to the lender / institute, and also via the Financial Ombudsman.
There are several sites online that assist you to manage this process yourself.

Can I cancel my claim?

You can cancel your claim by writing to us at any time.
We initially give you 14 days to cancel your claim during which no fees will be payable.
After 14 days, if no suitable offer of compensation has been received by either you or us, there will be no charge for work undertaken.
After 14 days, if you cancel and a suitable offer has been made by the lender which we have advised you to accept, you will be liable to pay our fees in full.
